A victory for France in this match would guarantee them a place in the semi-finals of the UEFA Nations League (UNL), while the ‘Mannschaft’ (Germany) need to avoid a loss if they are to keep their progression hopes alive.

After a goalless away draw in the reverse fixture, World Cup winners France found their way back to success by defeating the Netherlands (2-1) last month. In all competitions, including friendlies, Didier Deschamps’ men have now lost just one of their last 22 games (W15, D6, L1).
However the French were close to their first loss as world champions last week, as they fell to a 2-0 deficit against Iceland before scoring two goals in the last four minutes (2-2).

The Germans remain winless in the competition (D1, L1), and were on the receiving end of a humiliating 3-0 defeat to historic rivals the Netherlands last weekend – their largest loss since October 2007. Interestingly, the last time Germany recorded two-straight defeats in a tournament was in Euro 2000.
In 30 previous meetings, France have a positive record against Germany of: W13, D8, L9, and a positive goal difference of plus two (GF 47, GA 45).
